Weeks 15 & 16 of Pregnancy: Growth, Movement, and New Milestones

April 15, 2026

As you continue through the second trimester, weeks 15 and 16 often bring a welcome shift. Many women begin to feel more energy, fewer early pregnancy symptoms, and a growing excitement as their baby continues to develop.

Here’s what you can expect during this stage, for both you and your baby.

Week 15: Growing and Developing

At 15 weeks, your baby is growing quickly and becoming more active, even if you can’t feel those movements just yet.

Baby’s Development

Your baby is about the size of a pear and continuing to develop important features and abilities.

During this week:

  • Bones are hardening and becoming stronger
  • Muscles are developing, allowing for more movement
  • Facial features like eyes and ears are moving into place
  • Fine details, like eyebrows and hair, are beginning to form
  • Your baby is practicing movements like stretching and kicking

Although you may not feel it yet, your baby is constantly moving inside the womb.

What You May Be Experiencing

By week 15, many women notice a shift in how they feel physically.

You may experience:

  • Increased energy compared to the first trimester
  • Less nausea or morning sickness
  • A more noticeable baby bump
  • Occasional symptoms like heartburn, headaches, or mild dizziness
  • Changes in gums or increased sensitivity due to higher blood flow

Every pregnancy is different, so your experience may look slightly different and that’s completely normal. ¹

Week 16: Strength and Movement

At 16 weeks, your baby continues to grow stronger and more coordinated. This is an exciting time as many women begin approaching one of the most anticipated milestones, feeling their baby move.

Baby’s Development

Your baby is now getting bigger and more proportionate, now about the size of an avocado.

During this week:

  • Head and body are becoming more balanced in size
  • Muscles and bones continue to strengthen
  • The circulatory system is fully functioning
  • Facial expressions are developing, even though they can’t be seen yet
  • Your baby is becoming more active and coordinated

Some women may begin to feel early movements, often described as flutters, but it’s also completely normal not to feel anything yet. ²

What You May Be Experiencing

As your body continues to adjust, you may notice:

  • Continued increase in energy
  • A growing and more defined baby bump
  • Possible early flutters of movement
  • Skin changes or a “pregnancy glow”
  • Occasional aches as your body stretches and adjusts

This stage often feels more stable and manageable for many women.

Looking Ahead

Weeks 15 and 16 are a time of steady growth and anticipation. As your baby continues developing, you’re also moving closer to feeling those first movements, a moment many moms look forward to.

This is also a great time to continue focusing on your health, staying active (as recommended), and preparing for the months ahead.
