You’re Doing Beautifully: A Note for Breastfeeding Awareness Month

August 1, 2026

August is National Breastfeeding Month, kicked off by World Breastfeeding Week from August 1–7. It’s a time set aside to celebrate the moms who are feeding their babies, and to remind every mother, however she’s feeding her baby, that she is doing an incredible job.

Every Feeding Journey Looks Different

Breastfeeding, exclusively pumping, combination feeding, formula feeding: there is no single “right” way to feed a baby, only the way that works for your body, your baby, and your life. Some moms breastfeed for years. Some for weeks. Some never start, and some plan to but it doesn’t go the way they hoped. All of these stories are valid, and none of them make you less of a mother.

If you’re in the middle of figuring out what feeding looks like for your family, be gentle with yourself. You’re allowed to change your plan. You’re allowed to ask for help. You’re allowed to do what’s sustainable for you.

The Emotional Side of Feeding Your Baby

What doesn’t get talked about enough is how emotional this season can be. The exhaustion. The self-doubt. The pressure, real or imagined, to do it “correctly.” The grief if things don’t go as planned. The touched-out feeling of a body that doesn’t quite feel like your own yet.

If any of that resonates, you’re not alone, and you’re not doing anything wrong. Feeding a baby is physical work and emotional work at the same time, and it’s okay to find it hard even when you also find it meaningful.

You Don’t Have to Have All the Answers

For questions about latch, supply, positioning, or any medical concerns about feeding, the right people to talk to are your OB, pediatrician, or a certified lactation consultant. We always encourage moms to lean on those professionals for hands-on guidance.

Where we here at Amnion come in is everything around that: emotional support, parenting education, and connecting you with community resources, so you’re not piecing this together alone.

Community Support Matters

Whether you’re a new mom in Drexel Hill or Norristown, PA, or anywhere in between, know that support is close by. Sometimes the most helpful thing isn’t another article, it’s another mom or a caring team who says, “I see you, and you’re doing great.”
